Burst water pipe at midnight – this is dreadful!
No one likes to think about facing a sudden burst pipe and especially when it is during the weekend! We all know that water will expand when frozen and this is what happens in the plumbing system of our home. As the water freezes and this continues for days, there is continuous expansion inside the pipes which we cannot see. However, a lot happens inside the pipes in such a situation. There is a lot of pressure build since water stays in the pipe for a long time. If this happens for quite sometime, the pipe bursts.
Undoubtedly, when you are facing such a situation, you need to call your plumber. What if, your plumber is not able to come immediately? You can stop the flow of water first. You need to shut off the water flow in the area. If things do not get better, you can also stop the flow of water in your entire property. You can help your family members learn about how to shut the valve off in such a situation.
Keep a close watch and be aware of all the area where water is entering. Sometimes, this can cause serious safety concerns. The burst pipe can lead to standing of water on floor. You can slowly remove the water from the floor. If there are electrical outlets and you find water in the area, you need to definitely take precautionary measures. You need to shut off all the breakers immediately.
Remove submerged appliances:
Check if any appliance is submerged due to the spread of water. If appliances are submerged, it will surely damage them. It will affect their operation. Even if the appliance is submerged for an hour, it will be damaged. Thus, ensure that all appliances and gadgets are put away safely.
It is quite natural to panic in such a situation, but try not to. First and foremost, call your plumber and mention the emergency. Before the professionals arrive you can do your bit to reduce further trouble.
